This is the time of year when your many of our activities start-up after school. Please continue to review the Captain's Log with your child(ren) for upcoming events each week. I am also providing the following weeks schedule for planning purposes.
Parent(s) I am asking for your help again for the safety of our students. Please adhere to the policy regarding NOT pulling into the bus loop. I know we are all busy and have places to be, but pulling in the bus loop during school hours creates a major safety concern as students are utilizing this area for recess and/or PE. Thank you.
To stay after for Intramurals or any other school activities permission slips were required by the due dates last week. Please DO NOT stay after if a permission slip has not been turned in. If you are still interested in one of the Intramurals being offered and it not full, please reach out to the corresponding coach. |
Notes from our School Nurses |
1.) Reminder to parents/guardians: make sure your child is up to date on all recommended vaccines, including the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccines. Staying up to date on vaccinations helps protect your student and our school community. Contact your child’s school nurse with questions about
required school vaccinations.
2.) A measles outbreak has been reported in St. Mary’s County. While the risk to individuals who have received measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine remains low, we ask families to stay alert for symptoms of measles, including fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash. If your child develops
symptoms, keep them home from school and contact your healthcare provider before arriving so appropriate precautions can be taken. We are working closely with local public health officials and will continue to share updates as needed. Talent Show: 6:00 PM. Tickets will be available through GoFan or cash/check at the door. Tickets are $2 for students and $4 for adults. All proceed will go to EMS Theater and Fine Arts Programs.

August & September Students of the Month |
- Bus Loop is closed from 7:00 AM - 2:10 PM. If you need to pick-up or drop off your student, please use the upper parking lot. Plan accordingly as this may cause an additional couple of minutes.

If you have a medical or health reason of needing to pull into the bus loop, please contact the front office @ 301-863-4016
- If you call the office to let us know you are on your way to pick up your child(ren), they will not be called down until your arrival.
- Please complete the car rider pickup form (linked below) if your child will need to report to parent pickup daily.

Bus passes are not permitted for students to attend a friends house
- EMS Fundraising Information for the 2027 School Year is being completed by our Departments and will be shared prior to September 30th which is our finalized due date.

School Communication to Parents/Guardians |
Communication is essential for your child's success in school. In an effort to keep everyone informed about our school, weekly communications known as the Captain's Log are emailed to parents/guardians every Sunday afternoon at approximately 3:45 PM. The Captain's Log is sent to the primary email on file for your child. If you are reading this Captain's Log, then be assured your email is on file with us. We want to provide you with the information you need the most. |
Cell Phone Policy Reminder |
The cell phone policy for all SMCPS middle schools requires students' phones to be turned off and put away throughout the school day. This policy has been in effect at EMS for many years and is not new to our students. We want to thank our community for continuing to support our efforts in minimizing distractions for our students. Each infraction will result in a referral and the confiscation of the cell phone. Please review the Code of Conduct for more information. |
