Happy Labor Day!

Principal’s Message 🦅

Happy Labor Day, Eagles!

We hope your families enjoy a relaxing long weekend together. Thank you for helping us make our first full week of school a wonderful start to the year. We are excited to see everyone back on Tuesday and continue SOARing together!

Reminder: There is no school on Monday, September 7, 2026. Classes resume Tuesday, September 8, at 8:00 a.m.

🦅 WAY TO SHOW UP, EAGLES!

Last week, our Eagles showed us what happens when families and students make school attendance a priority! Thank you, families, for ensuring your children arrive at school on time and ready to learn each day. Your commitment shows how much you value your child’s education and understand that every school day is an opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.

ALL K–5 grade levels met or exceeded Maryland’s required 94% attendance rate last week! 🎉And our school role models-yes, that’s you, Fifth Grade!-SOARed to an incredible 97.3% attendance! WOW! 👏

Ms. Morgan got her steps in last week delivering PANTS (Perfect Attendance No Tardies) to all the classes who earned this special award. It was wonderful to celebrate students who showed up every day, on time and ready to learn!  Let’s keep making attendance a priority and showing our Eagles that every day counts, every student matters and our commitment to learning makes a difference! Keep soaring, Eagles! 🦅💙

đź’Š Medication Safety Reminder from Nurse Crystal & Ms. Morgan

We want to share an important reminder regarding medications brought to school. For the safety of all students, medications may not be sent to school with students or transported in a student’s backpack.  All medications must be brought directly to the school by a parent/guardian and must be accompanied by the appropriate medication order from the student’s physician. This includes prescription, over the counter and other medications that your child may need during the school day.

We know that mornings can be busy and we appreciate your help in following this important safety procedure. Keeping medications secured and properly documented helps us ensure that they are administered safely and only to the students for whom they are prescribed.

Please do not place medication in your child’s backpack or ask your child to bring it to school.  Thank you for partnering with us to keep all of our Eagles safe and healthy!  Nurse Crystal & Ms. Morgan 🦅

A Parent’s Guide to Firearm Storage (As Required by the state of Maryland, schools must notify families of this important firearm storage guidance)

Store and lock firearms unloaded.

Store and lock ammunition separately from firearms—every time.

Make sure keys and combinations to gun safes are not accessible to minors or anyone at risk of violence against themselves or others.

If someone is in crisis in the household, temporarily remove firearms from your home.

Avoid storing firearms unattended in vehicles to prevent theft.

Thank you for helping keep our children and communities safe.  Additional information is linked here:

Vision & Hearing Screenings

Our school nurse will begin vision and hearing screenings for:

Pre-K students and Kindergarten students who were not screened last year, all 1st-grade students and students who are new to SMCPS.

Screenings will be conducted as time permits over the next several months.

Vision and hearing screenings are relatively short processes designed to identify children who may be at risk for vision or hearing concerns. Screenings are not diagnostic and do not replace examinations performed by a health care or eye care professional that may provide diagnosis and treatment, if needed.

Undetected or uncorrected vision and hearing concerns may impact a child's development, behavior, learning, health, and overall well-being.

A student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) objects in writing to hearing and vision screening based on the tenets and practices of a recognized church or religious denomination of which the student is an adherent or member may not be required to participate.

Please contact Nurse Crystal if you have questions or would like additional information about opting out of these screenings.
